Character Qualities Part 2

Mike Seay Filed Under:
like i talked about in the first Character Qualities post, i'm gaining a lot from the book, The Heart of an Artist, and i really just wanted to share some of the goodness to anyone so heres part two.

"I will walk within my house in the integrity of my heart"
Psalms 101:2

Integrity can be defined as;
1. an undivided or unbroken completeness or totality with nothing wanting
2. moral soundness
3. Steadfast adherence to a strict moral or ethical code; The state of being wholesome; unimpaired; The quality or condition of being complete; pure

My favorite definition is the very end of the third one i found when i searched it online. its simple but maybe its all it needs to be, Pure. Pureness is what we should be striving for each and everyday. The people who waited on tables in the early church were known to be "full of spirit and wisdom"(Acts 6:3) Integrity isn't a standard for pastors and people in high council, it is a standard for each person in the church. Its so easy some time for us to comprise our character by simply living our life somedays without integrity, but i can tell you God wants nothing more than for us to realize we have lost our focus on Him and ask Him to return to the center of our lives. We need to be in constant prayer for our integrity and ask God to strengthen it and mold it into a reflection of that of Christ's. First Timothy says that we are meant to be models for everyone, "in [our] speech, in life, in love, in faith and in purity" Thats are call. Nothing else. and my challenge to you is to look into your own character and see if you are pursuing reflecting the love and goodness of Christ or caught letting your own pride and flesh to plague your life?

Im excited to hear back from anyone who reads these posts and get any feedback if you liked or disliked anything? \

I pray you are encouraged and motivated!
In christ, love.

Character Qualities Part 1

Mike Seay Filed Under:
Im reading through a  book titled "The Heart of an Artist", written by  a great worship director out of willow creek community church, Rory Noland. In the book he goes through scenarios that are bound to happen to just about anyone who is in church ministry. Its the perfect book to run through with a worship team, or anyone in the arts department of churches any where. The scenarios he gives on not for the benefit of just one style of church, and i think thats what's really awesome about the book. e gives a scenario, and then puts it in a question at the end so you Nd your team can work through what you would do, or what would work at your church. In this book i've found things where i said, oh yeah, i remember going through that, or, i wish i would have thought how of that way to handle that situation, and then there's thing that haven't happened and i know its something ill deal with in the future. i really didn't mean to pitch this book as much as i did, i wrote this blog to give some wisdom i've gotten from it, but i would defiantly encourage anyone who wants to grow with your worship team or just grow as a worship artist or pastor to read this book.

Proven Character pt. 1

"Be more concerned with your character than your reputation, because your character is what you really are, while your reputation is merely what others think you are."
-John Wooden
Legendary Basketball Coach

Living authentic lives as followers of Christ.

I believe this should be the first thing on anyones list as a person claiming they know and have a relationship with Jesus and especially if you are a person in a leadership role (church leadership in 1 Tim 3 and Titus 1). We should be models in "[our] speech, life, love, faith, and purity"(Tim. 4:12) The reality of having a character that backs up the things that you say and do cannot be stressed enough. its the most important thing because its the thing that compels you to do whatever it is you do. i enjoyed one of the points Rory talked about in the book that said this, "its okay to be introverted but its not ok to be self-absorbed. its okay to be in touch with your feelings, but is not okay to be controlled by them all the time. Its okay to be sensitive, but its not okay to be overly sensitive or chronically defensive. Its okay to do things with excellence, but is not okay to be overly perfectionistic."
What good insight, and truth. Hope this helped you some what, if only to take a step back and acknowledge the weight that your character hold in your life. I issue a challenge to you to really evaluate yourself and see where your character is struggling and also ask your close friends what they notice about your character. It may not be the most comfortable thing but i assure you it will be beneficial.  As Rory says in his book, Any growth we experience in character will be an asset to anything we do.

I really enjoy this program, and recently found out it has video capabilities. So for a class i had to make a music video, turned out okay for the first but Abelton software continues to amaze me. Its a must have for anyone into recording and apparently even some video?

Rehearsal Time

Mike Seay Filed Under:

Today we(oceans edge school) are spending the afternoon rehearsing the songs from our new CD that we recorded this year.

It sounds awesome!! Its so fun getting to watch everyone jamming their tunes and also getting to play with a lot of them. its sad to think this show that were practicing is the last time most of us will ever play with or even see each other. A very sad thought. I will miss them all very much, but the show is going to be amazing.

Pouler in the Studio

well, the fact that im messing around may not be as cool as the title makes its sound, because im not making some big cd or doing far out recordings but i am having some fun writing new tunes to play and have fun with. The idea of recoding is something that is fascinating for me.

I find myself a very introverted person in the studio. I like to take my time, have fun, be creative, and come up with some awesome stuff(writers terms of awesome applied). I'm really into a live sound.

Orchestral and the Big band sounds have always been at the top of my list of music, i just think how amazing it is that these are sounds that have captivated people in the past. and the best thing is, no one even ever had to say anything! The simplicity(of many formats) of the music is what i find so interesting. Its seems the music is always going somewhere, there is always a journey. First there is always a seemingly simple melody, but then everything seems to add to it, and were moving, then there's always the minor and the big build. Its creating an epic sound and making everyone listening feel the emotion of the music . This kind of sound is what i try to capture each time i write, but defiantly modernized!

Im not very excitedd about working with the "divas" or "pre-madonnas" but I do enjoy working people who could just pull an all nighter just from the whim of some unexplainable musical phenomena that they just discovered. and then after all that, you realize in the morning it really wasn't to good at all, or your computer has crashed! (thats not a fun one to witness)

I love recording music and ill be writing and recording for as long as i can imagine. My songs probably wont be on the radio or at some huge concert but if i can write songs for a congregation and impact one person, or just play a song that someone could listen to each night and fall asleep to, all these would be fine with me. The payoff for me is the process, there is the only place i know for certian what is happening, and what is happening is me enjoying every second of it!

Heres a little bit of a new idea i came about the other day....

Be Encouraged
